About us

  • BCHA was founded in 1976 in Lower Ravenhill as a result of increased local interest in social housing and associated issues. Following a public meeting and discussion with the NI Federation of Housing Association and the Department of the Environment, the Association was registered as an Industrial and Provident Society and Housing Association in 1977.
  • The Association has grown considerably over the years through new development, acquisitions and amalgamation with other associations. The latter were Botanic Housing Association, Willowfield parish Church Housing Association and Ballymacarrett Housing Association. The amalgamation was completed in 1998.
  • At the end of 2003 we moved to our new offices here at Ladas Drive and on 15th June 2004, the new offices were officially opened by Mr. John Speller M.P. Minister for Social Development.
  • The new offices were named after Mr. Robert Neilly OBE. Bob Neilly was one of the original founders of Belfast Community Housing in 1976.
  • The Association has approx 550 units of accommodation throughout Northern Ireland comprising of family housing, general needs and housing for the elderly.
  • We were accredited with Investors In People in August 2005 and October 2008, the Clients’ Charter in July 2006, the Charter Mark award in January 2007 and the Gold status in the EFQM Steps to Excellence in January 2008. In December 2009, we were delighted to achieve the EFQM 'Mark of Excellence'.
  • BCHA currently has 9 members on its Board of Management. The Board meets quarterly and is responsible for approving the review of current policies and the introduction of new policies.
  • The Executive Committee, a sub-group of the Board, meets monthly to review performance and day to day issues such as complaints.
  • If you would be interested in becoming a Board member, or even a member of the Association, please contact the office for further details.
